Quick Answer: Is a Photo Booth Worth It for a Company Holiday or Christmas Party?

Yes, a photo booth can absolutely be worth having at a company holiday or Christmas party, especially when it gives employees something enjoyable to do beyond dinner, drinks, and dancing.

But the value isn't simply in having a camera at the event. A photo booth is worth the investment when guests actually use it, enjoy the experience, and leave with photographs or videos they'll want to keep. Where it's placed, how people are welcomed, and how well the experience fits the celebration can make an enormous difference.

At JAM Entertainment, we've learned that a great photo booth should do more than take pictures. It should bring people together, make them feel celebrated, and give them something memorable to take home.

Sometimes, what a guest remembers most isn't the photograph. It's how someone made them feel while taking it.

Why Does a Company Holiday Party Need More Than Dinner and Dancing?

When companies plan their annual Christmas or holiday party, much of the attention naturally goes toward the venue, catering, decorations, and entertainment. Those things matter, but I encourage organizers to think about what employees will actually experience throughout the evening.

Not everybody dances. Not everybody drinks. Some employees love being the center of attention, while others are happiest spending time with a few coworkers.

A photo booth provides another way to participate. It gives colleagues a reason to laugh together, take a group photograph, and enjoy a moment outside their usual routine of meetings, deadlines, and responsibilities.

That matters because a successful holiday party isn't necessarily one where everyone participates in the same activity. It's one where different people have opportunities to enjoy themselves.

Event-planning platform Cvent makes a similar distinction in its guide to event engagement, emphasizing participation and meaningful connections rather than simply filling an event schedule.

For companies still putting the larger celebration together, our company holiday party planning guide for Reno explores how entertainment, room layout, and guest experiences work together.

What Makes a Photo Booth Feel Like a Red-Carpet Experience?

Think about the excitement of the red carpet at the Academy Awards.

What makes those moments special isn't just the camera. It's the welcome, the attention, the encouragement, and the feeling that someone is helping you look your best.

That's the inspiration behind JAM's professionally hosted photo booth experiences.

When guests approach our booth, an Experience Lead doesn't simply wait for someone to push a button. They step forward, say hello, ask how the evening is going, and personally invite people into the experience.

Once guests step in, our team helps them get comfortable, suggests poses, and guides them through their photographs. If someone doesn't love their picture, we're happy to try again. We're not trying to move people through as quickly as possible. We want them leaving with a photograph they're excited about.

Depending on the experience, we may incorporate professional lighting, elegant backdrops, or red-carpet staging with stanchions. Those details add to the presentation, but the interaction is what makes it personal.

Some people are ready to pose the moment they arrive. Others are hesitant because they don't particularly enjoy being photographed. A warm greeting and a little encouragement can make a tremendous difference.

And if someone decides not to participate? That's fine too. We still want them to feel welcomed.

The experience should make people feel seen, not processed.

A January Holiday Party I'll Always Remember

I was DJing a company holiday party in January where JAM was also providing a photo booth.

As I walked past, I happened to overhear a guest talking with one of our Experience Leads. She mentioned that she attended two or three company holiday parties each week and had experienced plenty of photo booths.

But this interaction had been different.

She told our team that she'd had a difficult week and that they had genuinely made her feel seen. What could have been a quick photograph had become something that brightened her evening.

I happened to hear that conversation, and it stayed with me.

Not every guest is going to have an emotional moment in a photo booth. Sometimes they just want to make a ridiculous face with their coworkers and laugh together. That's wonderful too.

But both experiences begin with the same principle: the people matter more than the equipment.

Where Should You Put a Photo Booth at a Holiday Party?

This may be one of the most overlooked decisions when planning a company event, and it's one I feel particularly strongly about.

I've seen beautiful photo booth setups placed in hotel lobbies, isolated corners, or locations guests pass once when they arrive and never return to.

The equipment works. The backdrop looks fantastic. The photographs are beautiful. But the booth barely gets used because it's out of sight and out of mind.

A photo booth should be placed where guests naturally gather, not simply wherever there's leftover space.

Having personally owned an event venue and worked as a planner, I look at the room from a broader perspective than simply finding a spot for our equipment.

Where will guests spend most of their time? Can they see the booth from the main celebration? Is it near a natural gathering area, such as the bar, without interfering with service? Will people have room to enter, pose, collect their photographs, and move away comfortably?

Proper spacing matters as well. A photo booth shouldn't feel squeezed between dining tables or block the natural movement of the room. Different experiences require different footprints, particularly a 360 Video Booth.

Occasionally, this means having an honest conversation with a venue or planner. A location might be convenient for the room layout but not ideal for guest participation.

If the only available location is a lobby guests won't revisit, we'll explain that concern before the event.

We'd rather have that conversation early than watch a client invest in a beautiful experience that never gets the attention it deserves.

Will Employees Actually Use the Photo Booth?

That's a fair question, especially if you're responsible for the company's event budget.

The answer depends on the people attending and how the experience is incorporated into the celebration.

A photo booth that's visible during cocktail hour gives guests an opportunity to participate as they arrive and mingle. At other events, the booth may become busier after dinner, when people have more freedom to move around.

A professionally hosted experience also makes participation easier. When someone feels a little awkward about taking a photograph, a friendly invitation can help. When a group of coworkers is already having fun together, the booth gives them somewhere to capture that moment.

I wouldn't promise that every employee will use it. That's not realistic, and it shouldn't be the goal.

Instead, I'd ask whether the experience gives people another enjoyable way to participate, whether it fits naturally into the evening, and whether the photographs or videos are something they'll appreciate afterward.

Those are much better ways to judge its value than simply counting how many pictures were taken.

Which Type of Photo Booth Works Best for a Company Christmas Party?

There isn't one perfect photo booth for every holiday party. The right choice depends on the atmosphere, guest count, available space, and what you want employees to take home.

At JAM Entertainment, we offer several photo booth experiences for corporate celebrations.

Print Photo Booths are excellent when you want employees to leave with a physical keepsake. Group photographs and personalized prints give guests something to enjoy after the party.

Glam Noir creates a polished black-and-white portrait experience, particularly suited to formal holiday parties, black-tie celebrations, and elegant corporate events.

360 Video adds movement and energy, creating short, shareable videos for guests who enjoy something more interactive. It requires appropriate space for the platform and guest movement.

JAM Roamer brings the experience directly to guests. It's particularly useful during cocktail hours, networking, and events where people are moving throughout the venue.

AI Photo Booth offers creative transformations tied to a holiday theme, company brand, or customized concept.

Prelude Portrait Experience offers a more elevated approach to event photography, especially for formal celebrations where guests appreciate a beautifully presented portrait.

I wouldn't recommend choosing an experience simply because it has the most features. The best choice is the one that matches your employees and the atmosphere you're trying to create.

Is a Hosted Photo Booth Better Than a Self-Service Booth?

For a formal company holiday party, Christmas celebration, or gala, I generally recommend a professionally hosted photo booth experience.

Self-service booths have their place. They can work well for casual office gatherings, open houses, and situations where guests simply want a quick digital photograph.

But they're different from the experiences we recommend for more formal celebrations.

An Experience Lead welcomes guests, helps with posing, manages the flow of people, and pays attention to how the experience feels throughout the event.

That's a meaningful distinction when a company has invested in a beautiful evening and wants employees to feel appreciated.

It also means the person organizing the party doesn't have to spend the evening worrying about the photo booth.

We appreciate hearing how that hospitality translates into guest experience. Following the PSCNN Classic, a nonprofit event at Red Hawk Golf & Resort, Mindy Lokshin of the Parkinson Support Center of Northern Nevada shared:

“Your photo booth was a huge hit.”

She also praised how the photographs captured the energy and spirit of the celebration. You can read her testimonial on our corporate entertainment page.

Although that wasn't a Christmas party, it reflects what we want to bring to every event: an experience guests genuinely enjoy and an organizer who's happy with the result.

Can a Photo Booth Be Customized for Your Company's Holiday Theme?

Absolutely, and this is where planning ahead can make a real difference.

Depending on the selected experience, JAM can incorporate company logos, branded photo designs, custom graphics, themed backdrops, and visual elements that complement the celebration.

A Christmas party might feature a winter-inspired backdrop, seasonal colors, or a festive print design. A formal corporate gala may call for elegant lighting and understated branding.

We also enjoy collaborating with venues, decorators, and other event professionals. Sometimes a client already has an elaborate holiday scene planned, complete with Christmas trees, furniture, and seasonal props. In those cases, we can explore how to incorporate the photo booth into that existing design.

For specially ordered or custom-fabricated backdrops, we generally recommend allowing approximately four weeks for preparation.

And if you've never planned a company holiday party before, that's okay.

We regularly speak with people who have unexpectedly been handed responsibility for their organization's celebration. They know the date, perhaps the venue, and that they're supposed to make the evening special. They just aren't sure where to begin.

We start by understanding the guest count, venue, schedule, atmosphere, budget, and what the company hopes employees will experience.

From there, we help determine which photo booth makes sense, how it fits the room, and what level of customization is practical.

Sometimes the most valuable part of that first conversation is simply helping an overwhelmed organizer feel confident about the decisions they're making.

When Is a Photo Booth Not Worth It for a Holiday Party?

I don't believe a photo booth belongs at every event.

If the celebration is extremely short, there may not be enough time for guests to enjoy it. If the venue has no suitable space, a stationary booth could create congestion. And if the only available location is somewhere guests won't naturally return, participation may be limited.

The audience matters too. Some organizations may be better served by another kind of entertainment or guest experience.

That's why I prefer starting with a conversation rather than assuming every client needs the same setup.

If a particular booth isn't right for the event, we should be willing to explain why or recommend something different. For example, a roaming experience may be more appropriate in a space where a stationary booth would interfere with the room.

The investment makes sense when the experience contributes something meaningful to the celebration, not simply because a photo booth appears on somebody's event checklist.

Final Thoughts: The Experience Is About the People

A company holiday party is an opportunity to recognize the people who helped make the year possible.

For some employees, it's a chance to dress up and enjoy an evening outside their everyday routine. For others, it's an opportunity to spend time with coworkers, celebrate accomplishments, or simply have fun together.

A photo booth can become part of that celebration, creating laughter, connection, and something tangible to remember.

But the equipment alone doesn't make it successful. The location matters. The presentation matters. And most importantly, the way guests are welcomed and treated matters.

At JAM Entertainment, that's what we want our photo booth experiences to represent.

The photograph is what guests take home. How they felt while creating it is what makes the experience memorable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a photo booth worth it for a company Christmas or holiday party?

Yes, when it gives employees another enjoyable way to participate and creates photographs or videos they'll appreciate afterward. The value depends on choosing the right experience, placing it where guests will see it, and making participation comfortable and inviting.

Will employees actually use a photo booth at a company party?

Many employees enjoy photo booths, but participation depends on the audience, location, timing, and presentation. A visible, welcoming experience generally has a better opportunity to attract guests than one hidden in a remote lobby or corner.

Where should a photo booth be placed at a holiday party?

Choose a visible location near natural guest activity without interfering with entrances, dining, bar service, or other entertainment. Allow appropriate room for the equipment, guest participation, and comfortable movement.

Is a hosted photo booth better than a self-service booth?

For formal holiday parties and galas, JAM generally recommends a professionally hosted experience. An Experience Lead can welcome guests, guide photographs, manage participation, and create a more personal interaction. Self-service booths can work well for smaller, casual events.

What type of photo booth is best for a corporate holiday party?

It depends on the celebration. Print booths offer physical keepsakes, Glam Noir suits elegant events, 360 Video creates energetic clips, Roamer works well for moving crowds, AI booths offer themed transformations, and Prelude Portrait provides an elevated portrait experience.

Can we customize a photo booth with our company logo or Christmas theme?

Yes. Depending on the selected experience, JAM can incorporate company logos, branded designs, holiday graphics, and custom backdrop options. Specially ordered or fabricated backdrops generally require additional planning time, often around four weeks.

Do we need a DJ to book a JAM photo booth?

No. JAM provides standalone photo booth experiences for company holiday parties, galas, corporate events, and private celebrations. DJ and Master of Ceremonies services can be booked separately or combined when appropriate.

How early should we book a photo booth for a holiday party?

Earlier booking gives you more flexibility to choose your experience, coordinate the venue layout, and prepare custom designs. If your event is coming up soon, it's still worth checking availability and discussing what can realistically be provided.
